When will I see a change?......

How long before I start to see a change in red hair algae growth? I got my phosban reactor set up and running over 24hours. I know it's not along time but I was just wondering about how long it'll be before I start seeing this stuff die off? Am I being to anxious about this process?

make sure to cut back on feeding to twice or 3 times a week or try going a day or 2 without light's on. took me a little over a month to get mine under control

Depends. cyano and hair algae isn;t just dependant on how much po4 is in the water. Trim it and remove it and it will die down over time. All depends on the system and your removal tactics. Could be a week could be a month or more.

Adding phosban is not the only answer to your troubles ,you should do weekly water changes and change the phosban once a week . I would also add some flow to the area where you have the most red slime . It takes time ,But when you rid of it ,it will just disappear

maintaining the tank is the key to your success

Test your RO water as well for phosphates

I forgot to add some info about feeding .If you feed frozen food ,you should make sure you rinse it out a few time before feeeding it to your fish/corals .By doing this you will reduce the amount of phosphate introuduce by the food . do the same with dry food to be on the safe side .

WOW I never realized how many different way Phosphates could be introduced to the tank. And I especially never thought it could be added through RO/Di water.

I should add that I do 10% weekly water changes, and only feed my fish 3X's a week.

up your water changes to a more sizeable water change and do a couple of those within a couple of weeks...

as already mentioned the phosban reactor is not gonna lower your phosphates tremendously, it helps though...

It also depends how much phosphate has leached its way into your rock and sand. It took me about 6 weeks to (mostly) undo the damage caused by a year of tap water usage.

All good advice above!! Phosphate in RO/DI happens when your cartridges are exhausted.. Patience is key with this hobby.

So when I mix new water after I check with my TDS meter I should do a phosphate test also? Or if I get a 0 reading on the TDS does that mean there is no phospahtes in the RODI water?
