I have 2 lights that were ruined by salt creep. They were placed on glass and they still got ruined.

Bangbang, you need to periodically clean the salt creep off before the lights are ruined. Depends on how much SC you have, you may have to wipe it down weekly, if not more often. Sometimes make sure the water level is not too high, and make sure there isn't much splashing in the tank will help the problem a bit. If it is from hang-on-the-back skimmer or sump return, try to mod. the output a litlle to help with the splashing...

I know it is a dumb question... but you are not using air stone do you?

Nope......no airstone. This stuff seems to just float in the air and gets on everything. I have almost quit this hobby and gone back to freshwater because of this. I did not have this problem with my first tank.

There's no reason why you couldn't take a paper towel soaked in vinegar and clean the salt creep away once a week. That's what I do. No big deal.

I'm thinking salt creep shouldn't be the top priority if you found a dog dead and was there long enough to be covered... :(

I just wipe it down. I have been lucky the rate my tank accumulates salt creep is kind of slow so every few weeks is all I have to worry about.

I've seen some product that is made by Kent Marine (I think) that's supposed to help reduce salt creep. Have yet to try it though.

I'm getting tired of pulling the light off my tank and scrubbing the glass lid every few days. I'd remove the glass, but then I'd have to do the same on my light....

Maybe it's time to mod my filter output...hmmmm...time to check out Home Despot...

Coralife Salt Creep Eliminator contains corrosion-blockers and rust-inhibitors which effectively eliminate salt creep and protect equipment from future salt damage.

Neutralize the corrosive action of salt. Just spray on areas where salt buildup, corrosion and rust occur. Reapply weekly or as needed. Safe for fish.

It does not eliminate salt creep as the name suggested, but rather mitigate the corrosive issue of saltwater.
