After reading a lot about how bad copper is for your reef it occured to me that I had been keeping pennies in this 5 gallon water jug for the passed few years(like the kind that would go on water dispenser). I havent set my tank up or anything so I havent done anything with it yet, but I had planned on using it to transport my SW from the LFS. Originally the thought of the copper somehow leaching in tot he plastic never occurred to me, but I did soak it in a 1:4 mixture of vinegar and water to clean it out.

Could the pennies have possibly leached copper in to the plastic?

If the answer is yes then obviously ill toss it and go buy antoher overpriced waterjug. Just wanted to see if I had the right instinct to toss it or if I am just being paranoid.

Thank you,
Jesse

If ya buy a $2.00/ 5 gallon container of distilled water at the supermarket you can be sure it isnt toxic ;) I'd err on the side of caution myself.

There is not much copper in the pennies nowadays, but if you are concerned, clean it a few more times. The plastic jag is pretty much "unleachable" for copper, since is it non-porous. If you really want to make sure, as Lawdawg says, get a new one.
