Have a 6 gal nano-watchman goby, pistol shrimp, inverts ect. I have a rondomatic auto feeder and a top off system, My concerns are: How to turn off pump when feeder feeds ? If I just leave everything running and the feeder feeds it just sucks all the food right into the filter.... are there any systems out there that can do both? Thanks all.

Be very careful about using an automatic feeder. My sister used one on her large cichlid tank while we were on a cruise and it dumped all at once causing a massive ammonia spike which killed a number of her fish, causing ammonia to go even higher, killing even more. I believe she had approximately 5 survivors out of over 70 juvenile and adult breeding cichlids. It was a smelly huge loss!

Bill, your tank will be fine without any food for 7 days. I'd be more concerned with top offs, which btw, can be taken care of with a float switch, bucket of water and small power head.

For a week you should be fine. I stil lwould recommend you have someone stop by once or twice to make sure that the heater is still working and the top off is still functioning.

Hi Bill, things are going pretty well these days even tho I'm almost fishless.

I have a friend who comes over and feeds the bird, dog, cats and waters the fish. She doesn't feed, but will checks every thing out to make nothing is going wrong. She has her own tanks so that's a comfort for me to know that if something goes wrong she'll take care of it. Also, my lfs friends all check on each others tanks when someone is out of town. Do you have someone at one of the lfs that you trust enough with a house key or a good friend that is into sw tanks that could help?

I think the important thing is that you leave detailed instructions for care and a phone number where you can be reached. If they're going to feed for you be sure to pre-measure and package each feeding.
