kinda on a budget and I don't really want to buy a bag of salt. total rookie question but can you add regular salt (table salt) to increase salinity levels?

I'm at 1.019 and probably thinking that's why a few zoos aren't coming out as well as my star polyps. i have a 12 gal nano cube if that helps.

any advice greatly appreciated!!!

no you can not use table salt. Thats a pretty small tank, you can get smaller quantities of salt at most lfs. You might also want to contact your local aquarium club. What are you using for water? Tap water?

Yes, I was counting on evaporation but it's been pretty cold here, and I'm not needing to use a heater so my water hasn't been evaporating like it would in the summer. :)

It's a nano obviously and no I'm not using tap water. Been doing this for over a year and studying up a lot on reef keeping so I definately know not to use tap water and have never used tap water.

I guess I'll head over to the LFS.

This hobby only gets more expensive so you might want to keep that in mind also. Some corals and fish I bought cost as much or more then a 300 gallon bag of salt. You can't use regular table salt though. If you want to save money, just buy a big bucket of salt. For your tank it will last you a long long while.

drop 45 bucks for a big bucket and dont worry about it for 12 months :) Don't use table salt, everything WILL DIE. Also, dont be put off by the initial cost of the hobby. Invest in some good equipment, then let it do its job for the long run.
