I think a derasa or squamosa would do fine with your lighting. The rest of your parameters look fine too.

I'd go for it if I were you.

Sounds really good for a 5-month old tank. I didn't figure out how to keep a clam alive for awhile. The keys for me was adding trace elements and phytoplankton. I'm still not sure how often to add phytoplankton though. If I go by the bottle I use it's a fraction of what the guy at the local shop says they use.

Just be sure when you're buying it to get a healthy one.

Look for signs of pyramid snails (conical shells - small) and flatworms (especially around the edge of the shell/mantle).

Also try shading the clam with your hand. If it closes immediately, it's healthy.

The mantle should also be well colored, not faded.

A six line Wrasse will take care of any clam pests and are a super cool fish for a clam tank. :D

Though 6-lines can also be aggressive little buggers. A friend had one kill a clown fish 4 times it's size (and the 6 line was added after the clown). Most are fine, but from to time they decide to spread a little havoc...

I don't think he's even purchased the clam yet, let alone found any flatworms. We were warning him to look out for them when he purchased, that's all.

Oh, sorry. I think they're brown (the pest commonly found on clams), but there are so many different types of flatworm that I'm not sure. Time for someone with more experience of flatworm/clam problems to chime in...

Am making a road trip to the DFS Outlet store in Rhinelander,WI. It is about 3 hours from my home. I have a 150$ gift certificate. I have visited the outlet before. Hopefully they will have a nice & healthy squamosa or Derasa for me.
