The best kind of Filteration for SaltWater

Whats better WetDry or Liverock or combo or just charcoal Filters.I have a WETdry built in protein skimmer on Tank 1 with Damsels and clowns.I have had no Fish deaths in a long time at least 5 months.I have thought about adding a 60 G Whisper charcoal Filter on it but not sure when you replace dirty filters does it kill off some good Bacteria?.Dont want to waste money if there is no real benefit in it.On tank 2 with my predator Fish I HAVE TWO 60 G Whisper Filters and have no Fish deaths I change out one Filter evet week there are four filters.On predator tank 3 I have A 75 G WetDry with a built in protein skimmer and a small 15 G charcoal filter.Do you think there be a advantage to putting on a charcoal filter at all.My predator tanks are Fish only not Reef Tanks some base rock in there thats all.Are protein skimmers really any good or a waste of money ?. :wink:

I don't feel a charcoal filter will be useful for your situation. What type of skimmers do you have in there? With good skimmer, you can remove most of the organics so that the wetdry won't have to work very hard. IMHO, a good skimmer is very important for a predator-tank due to the feeding.

i would spend most of my money on a skimmer...

get a deltec.... the mce600.. it is a painfull hit in the pocketbook. but you will not be sorry! i have seen this thing work. and it is the best hangon i have EVER SEEN!

Thanks for advice can you suggest a Good Skimmer under $ 150.00,I would prefer one that does not sound like Niagra Falls,it would go on a 55 G Tank.

Maybe look fora AquaC Remora on Ebay or somthing. I think you can pick up a new one for round $200 if you can go that far. Its another great skimmer.

I was also looking at the AquaC Remora. I have seen them for $165.00 buy it now with a maxi jet pump and free shipping new.
