We would like to start adding soft corals to our 55 gal. tank. We understand that we will need to replace the standard light fixture. At this time, we are using a Fluval 304 filter and a 402 power head. Will this system support soft corals if we change the lights?
Thank you,

You may be able to limp by with things like mushrooms. To really have luck you sohoud look at upgrading. A few more power heads and a good hang on back skimmer is all you would need.

Thank you Wazzel,
Just curious, is it best to keep plant life from the same region that our fish come from? Thanks again.

Are you talking about macro algae? Their are seveal that are used commonly in the hobby. I would suggest against having them in the main display. If unchecked they can easly over grow your corals.

We are considering the following: Mushrooms of course, Leather and or Finger Corals and some type of Polyp.
Thanks again for all the help,

Most of those will do well with moderate flow and lighting. If that is all you are planning a VHO or PC lighting system will do you well.

Thank you for the help Wazzel. We are heading to town soon to look at our options and at least buy another book on corals. If all is well, we will pick up our Yellow Tang today!
Thanks again. Sadly, we are a one shop town but at least Nick, the owner, is very careful about what he will sell people. Great staff too.
