UV Sterilizer for controlling ALgae, and parasites

Has anyone used UV sterilizers to assist in parasite and Algae control for reef tanks? Are they effective or just snake oil in an expensive package? Was just curious if a UV unit would help me keep my tank alittle more algae free.

I dont think its going to help with algae control.

The best way to handle algae control is to export more than you input.

I huked up a uv, and my tank has never been better. I have it on a timer, and it comes on about 6 hours a day. Algee is still there but a lot less. and all my corals got a whole lot bigger for some reason.
