I set up a 10 Gallon Tank with a Gonodactylaceus falcatus Mantis Shrimp.
Or it might be a purple spotted mantis, they look very similar.

I checked this site for the type:

How tightly do I need a lid? Do they have a tendency to climb/jump out?

10 Gallon
Biowheel 125
3 Inches of Live Arogonite Sand
3Lbs live rock

I am going to add 6-7 more pounds of live rock and a 30Watt Power Compact light to help growth.
Except for prey this is a species only tank.

Any other ideas for keeping a Mantis, as this is my first.

When startled I have seen them jump. They could do it and I wouldnt rule it out. These are animals and are incredibly unpredictable.

I don't think you'll need a tight fitting lid like an octo.

However, considering the damage that a mantis COULD do to wandering fingers ... it may be a very good idea for the safety of curious children and pets if you put a lid on the tank of some type.

They are very spooky IME and I have never known them to jump out - hell they won't even jump out of the live rock when it is pulled from the water. You can use less light if you like, too.
