Hi all

I am in the throws of stocking my 240 and thus far have come up with these:
My list so far is
Candy Hog Wrasse,
Possum Wrasse
Possibly thinking of getting a Blue Throat Trigger Decided against
African Midas Blenny, Doh, out of stock
And this beauty, Peppermint Hog, although this one may be a month or 2 away yet.

I've never kept a trigger before, anything i should be aware of, i have no ornamental shrimp in my tank.

But to make things difficult, i'm also rather taken with a shoal of Anthias, 6 to 8 possibly.

At the moment i have :
1 Copperband Butterfly
1 Powder Blue Tang
1 Australian Dottyback

Does anyone have any experience with any of these fish in a system together, is there anything i'm not seeing in compatibility

Any/All info welcome

Anton

Hi,

in a tank that size i do not see the two wrasses having a problem.

the hog might have issues with the other wrasses.... let wait for other to chime in. they have similar boddy shapes and very different colors. it migt be a battle of " who looks best"

I am not a real fan of trigger fish. they will destroy everything. If you do not have a reef and if you do not mind the trigger adding its own decorating ides. hen you might be ok.

you will have to wait for others to chime in....

the mida blenny rocks!!!! :D they are a great fish, very active and are in constant motion. great fish for any tank. he will be a mid to upper column swimmer anyway. so if you have a scooter or something they will not bother each other.

hope this helps

hey, i agree LA-lawman, about the wrasses and the hog fish. the ones i had fought to the death instantly! they were not those type but it goes for most of those kind. however, the triggerfish can be distructive. you might be talking about the half moon triggerfish, sufflamen chrysopterus, or possibly the blue chin triggerfish, xanthichthys auromarginatus.
triggerfish can be very distructive depending on what type you have. they have been known to re-arange rock and bite through cords!.
the half moon grows to be about 11.8 inches. they do good in home aquarium and will love the room with your 240. they aren't nearly as mean as some other triggers and can become quite tame.
the blue chin grows to be only 8.7inches in length. the are one of the few triggers that can be kept with most reefs. they are much more docile than most other triggers and sometimes can be kept in a pair. the male will have a blue patch on it's throat. these triggers are known to spit water out of the tank for no apparent reason, normally they would do this in the wild on sea urchins to make them retract so they can eat them. i personally loved the blue chin that i had and is still one of my fav. fish.
if these aren't the triggers you want then i would recomend xanthichthys ringens, sargassum trigger. they are the best for reefs as far as trigger fish go. they are pure white with yellow eyes and a yellowish tail. very pretty. they get 13.8 inches and along with all trigger fish love water move ment.
if you do get a trigger introduce it last and keep a close eye on it, but in a 240, you should be just fine.
good luck!! keep us posted

Thanks for the info guys

I have a Possum Wrasse and a Blue Assessor on there way from Marine Center, came very close to buying a Peppermint Hog, but backed down at the last minute, i found it quite tough to pay $199 for a fish, something i'm gonna have to work on obviously

Thanks again, will keep you posted

hey, from my experience, anthias don't do real well with members of their own genus. it is posible, and every thing i've read has told me it's been done before and can be done with a 135 gallon, well you have a 240, with other fish, i think you'll be fine but you might wana keep an eye on it. and if you don't mind a little money for a beautiful fish, i might try a black tang (chevron tang). they are firey redish orange with bright purple on the tail. and what else were you thinking for this tank? b/c you got a lot of room to make use of. good luck!!!
