Hi,
I have a few questions about my cycle in progress. My FO 40 gal has been up and running for two weeks. I have been doing regular tests to monitor water progress and I wanted to run it by you all to see if I am on the right track. With the first test I started off at Ammonia 1.0 ppm, Nitrate 5.0 ppm, and Nitrite 0.25 ppm. I am now standing at Ammonia 0.25-0ppm, Nitrite 5.0 ppm and Nitrite 5.0 ppm. I can see that the Ammonia is starting to begin its decline as it it converted in to Nitrate and Nitrite. Am I on the right track for the bio-filter taking hold? I realize there is a way to go for the process...should I do any water changes yet or let it keep going? I'm skimming and there is no sponge or other filter media in my system. I am running my lights about 4 hrs. a day. There is a trace of brown alge forming on the sandbed and a bit on the LR otherwise the tank is very clear and looking good. Should I keep lighting so long? Sorry for all the questions, the closest SWFS is about 1hr. away! Thanks ----Rob
