I really need to have someone help me out here a little. I know that ultimatly a calc reactor is the way to go to maintain good calcium levels. I am also aware of the kalkwasser method. My tank is just a few months old. For right now I simply cannot spend another dime on equipment so the calcium reactor will have to wait. What I need is some comprehensive input on dripping kalkwasser. Do's and donts. I am going to DIY a drip system and I am just a little nervous about the whole process. My calc is barley 310 right now and have been using a two part additive to attempt to get my calc levels up.

Do I need to get the calc levels up first or will the kalk drip do this for me?

Any in depth info some of your experienced pros can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Before you attempt to make any corrections to your Ca levels you need to know what your Alk is. You don't want to try raising your Ca levels with your alk too high - could cause a precipitation event.

If you're struggling to keep Ca levels up with your 2-part, check your Mg levels - they may be too low. Low Mg levels can make it difficult to maintain normal Ca levels.

Kalkwasser will add Ca and Alk in balanced ratios. If Alk and Mg levels are normal and you're just low on Ca then you'll need to adjust it separately. You can do that by using the Ca part of the 2-part additive alone or dosing Calcium Chloride. This calculator should help:
