I have a new addition to my tank...two f. percula clowns. I purchased them on Sunday and they are doing great. One is just a touch larger than the other, if it matters for my question. The smaller clown has a small slightly raised white pin-point spot on its side near the lateral line. I can't see it very well but it is noticable. The fish is NOT noticeably irritated or glancing off objects and is eating normally. No other spots have formed on the fish since Sun. The two fish traveled from the LFS in the same bag (45 min trip) and were a bit aggressive towards each other a few times. Could this spot be a bite mark or some other damage.?...it just doesn't seem like parasite. These are the only two fish in my 40 gal. Thanks ----Rob

Tough to say without a pic. If it appears raised it could be ich. If the fish seems healthy and is acting normal I wouldn't worry too much. Make sure it's eating well and see how it goes for now...

probably just from the stress of moving and all.

btw isnt actual MARINE ICK pretty rare?

I think it is pretty common.

I've had several fish develop symptoms in QT before I started using hypo for any fish I buy.

I see it at LFSs too...30 fish in a holding tank and lots of them will have spots.

Nope Snow, it's common and a PITA to get rid of in a reef tank once ya get it ;) which is why I QT.

I have been lucky with my reef "no ich". However in my tropical tank if its ich it spreads fast and leaves no boubt what it is. I would think it would be the same in a reef tank but not certain. By the way what is hypo? I do not have a qt does this stuff somehow prevent ich?

"Hypo" is short for hyposalinity...a lower specific gravity (SG) of seawater than usual. Ich and some other marine parasites can't survive at a lower SG, so you keep new fish in QT with a lowered SG to kill any parasites.

It does work. If you're interested, you can do a search on the forum here and you'll find lots of threads on the subject. As far as a QT tank, it can be as simple as a rubbermaid container with a sponge filter and a heater, it doesn't have to be an elaborate setup. IMO, a QT is cheap insurance against introducing a nasty into your established tanks.
