upgrading

I've decided to upgrade nano12 to aquapod 24. Can I get some advice on the best way to do this to minimize livestock loss. I am going to transfer what is in my overstocked underlit tank to the aquapod 24. Do I need to start cycle all over again or can I just move my existing sand and liverock to the new tank?

You are going to need a little bit more rock. Cure the new rock before you make the switch. I would not move the sand. Use new sand. It should not be much.

If it were me. I would cure the new rock. Once the new rock is cured and the water is stable threat the old tank like it is full of new purchaes. Do water changes between the old tank and new tank over a few hours, 2 or so. Then move the critters and the rock over. Should not lose a thing. Unless you drop something and it brakes.

Also, If you are going to upgrade you lighting start with a reduced photo period and bring it up slowly over a few weeks.

I would amend Wazzel's advice to determining if there are any nuisances in your current tank that you would like to avoid "contaminating" in the new tank..

If there ARE nuisances (algaes, etc) that you don't want coming over, then you won't want to share water between the two if its at all possible.

If thats the case, you want to treat them as two VERY different setups and (again, if possible) freshwater dip everything when moving them between tanks.

Either way, take your time, move things over in stages.
