ive got a sump question

any ideas on what i could do.....my return line that comes into my sump really pushes water into my sump fast, so i bout a sock and put it on there, everything was going well, but the water seems to bubble out of the sock, so its not working to well, any ideas on what i could do/buy to slow the flow of water..cus without the sock it just stirrs up sand and messes everything up in the sump.

Slower return pump maybe?

I wouldn't try restricting the sump feed do to potential bloackage.

Sorta the same problem here.. - For me its more a matter of reducing the noise though since it sits right next to my head while I'm watching movies..

Heres what I'm going to try.. - Should work the same for you I'd imagine..

Where the pvc coming down from the overflow drain meets my waterline in the sump I'm going to attach a horizontal piece of pvc that I've drilled a bunch of holes in.. - smaller diameter close going to larger diameter farther along and finally ending in a 45° elbow pointing up at the end. (I only use 45° elbows by the way.. - 90° elbows restrict the flow a bit more and I don't want that.. - I want as much flow as I can get..)

Oh, yeah, I'm going to put this works so that the pvc sits in about 75% water, allowing the air that gets mixed in on the ride down to escape in air and the water to escape in water..

If the flow is to fast you need to slow the flow down. Best wat to do that is to throttle the output of the pump. Do not throttle the suction side of the pump you could damage the pump.

i put a ball valve were my return line is from my pump and ive been restricting flow...seems to help, but this wont toast my pump will it?

Is it a submersible pump?
- If N -> You're ok, stop reading and go look at your tank.
- If Y -> Is it submerged?
--- If N -> Tough call, could be trouble some day, go roll a dice and find out.
--- If Y -> You should be fine, but it may cause a little more heating..
