I would love to get a mandarin, but alas, I just don't have a big enough tank...*cough*yet*cough*

I was reading some postings about copepods and how they are usually a good sign in a tank. I don't have a refugium, but was curious if having a coloney of pods living in the live rock would be benefitial to other fish. Do other fish munch on these?

Many fish eat pods.
Pods are great in their own right, they eat algae. Don't be in a hurry to get rid of them!

I guess my question was more of: If I don't have them should I get some?

[I just set up my new tank - I'm still in the dreaming stage.]

Oh... sorry.
Yes! I think pods are very beneficial.
If you have added any live rock or sand odds are that you do have some, they may just be difficult to see. Check your rocks after your lights go out, you might be surprised what you see running around in there.

Hi Our tank has only been running 6 weeks with Liverock, and we have the same little white critters I believe you call pods crawling all over glass and rock.
The good news is we have just added to common clowns (1 week ago) and they have frozen food (defrosted of course) for breakfast & tea and in between time they like nothing better than to munch on the larger pods that get dislodged from the glass!!!
So my guess is they are good for the tank.
