We have a crazy saddle back clown who was hosting with a condy anenome at the LFS, so we bought both to keep him happy. I know this is not a natural host for the clown. They have been a good pair for about 6 weeks. The anenome has wandered some in the tank, but has been pretty settled lately and appears healthy. He did dislodge from the ledge he has been on today. I fed him a small shrimp (I do this about once a week and he seems to like it alot) and gently got him up off the sand and back on the ledge. However the clown fish has been acting differently ever since. He is usually constantly buffeting the anenome, and, although he isn't straying far, he is not buffeting it, and he is out and about around the tank alot more than usual. Do I need to be worried, or do I just wait it out. The white band on the clown's head also looks a little mottled, which I hadn't noticed before today. Could he be getting sick?

That's normal as the Clown discovers that your tank isn't full of predators and can explore further away from home.

The mottling is hypermelanization and is common on Clownfish with stinging hosts.

Thanks! I am assuming that there is nothing I can do/need to do about the hypermelanization. Appreicate your help.

If you removed the Anemone it can be reversed but what fun is that?
