I have a green star polyp in my 30 gal I put him at the top of my rocks to get more light but it seems like when the lights are all on he never opens when the moon lights are on he is open 100%

I have one 96watt 50/50
and a 130watt mix
and lunar lights

all lights are on but the moon lights for about 10 hours the actinic light for about 1 hour then moon light on for another 6 hours,

the only thing that I can think is one maybe the temp change, I run about 85 with full lights and 83 with moon lights.

Or two that it's to close to the lights, at the top of the rocks?
It seems to be going ok but the growth is not the same as my other life in the tank

Dont have a strong flow on it

been looking around on reefs.org and seen many post that say they grow out of control and sting so if I was to movie it I may need to re think the placement some say the glass is the best place for it?

After maybe 6 weeks, my GSP are opening up a little. But only a little. I don't know why though, since everything else is doing good. :?

GSP go through periods where they don't open, and sometimes shed like a waxy substance.

cenzo, I'd think maybe they are too close to the light.

I think it is just to close to the lights. Mine are on the sandbed and in good current. They only close up at night. As far as I know they don't sting. Then again I also have a hammer, torch, and haitian anemone and have never been stung by them either. Once happy they do grow like crazy and I wouldn't put them near other corals cause they will overtake them and kill them off. Have seen lots of people put them on the glass but I prefer the sand. My hubby calls it grass!

You may also want to make sure none of your fish are nipping at it. I had a couple of damsels that would nip at mine so it never opened up fully (however I think it stayed closed at night as well). Got rid of the damsels and after a couple of days it was back to fully open.
