mushrooms, can they be moved?

Please help.

I have a few mushroom corals I want to move to a different rock with having to frag the one they're on. Can this be done without hurting them? If so, can someone please enlighten me on the subject?

At times mushrooms do move from rock to rock, Try placing a rock as close to the shroom and see if it will jump. :wink:

Hmmm...interesting. I will try that. But is there a quicker way of making them jump? :twisted:

I have this one that was attached to another coral when I bought it. I want to lay the coral on it's side where the shroom is. Don't want to kill it by doing that. So if there's a way to make it jump faster let me know.

You can try putting them in front of a good powerhead. They don't usually like the current and will let go. you can use a rubberband to stick them where you want.

Would putting them in front of a powerhead mean that I have to watch them until they let go of the rock? That sounds better than pulling them off.

It wouldn't happen right away necessarily. And depending on the size of the mushroom, you could lose it in the current/rockwork...

Do you mean without having to frag the rock they are on? As in having to actually break the rock? Or without having to frag the mushrooms? Because mushroom fragging or propogation is one of the simplest things in the world. Just take a clean razor blade and slice them off. Then pin them to the new location, or tie them on with wedding veil or monofilament or something. In a few days they will attach. The stump on the old rock will grow into a new one too. But you can turn over the rock as you want to and kill the stump. If you want more mushrooms out of the one you have just cut it into pieces as you would a pie or pizza. As long as each piece has part of the mouth on it it will grow into a new piece. I have also heard of people throwing mushrooms into a blender, then dumping the blended mix into their tank. In a few weeks they have little mushrooms all over the place. I wouldn't try this method though.

no .. you want to keep your shoorm population controlled! they can and will take over in short periods of time.

btw if you frag them wear gloves. they can be very toxic.

Thank you for the suggestions. I think I'll try to slice but not dice. I have a few shrooms to spare so slicing a couple will probably be my choice. I can then place the rock where I want it.

I get to play surgeon. Woo hoo.
