I siphon about 5g off my 40g tank weekly and some of my SPS goes above the water level in the process. Is this bad? It's out the water for about 5 mins. One goes completely out. I think it's a pocillepora (spell check). Is this something to worry about? So far everything seem fine...

any advice would be appretiated. thanks!

Some coral got out of water during low tide twice a day without issue. For deep water species, it may be a problem, but for most of the coral, a few minutes should be fine unless the air temperature is very high, such as right next to the MH bulbs.

I'd just splash them with water every minute or so and not worry about much. They should be fine.

A few minutes will not hurt any thing. You may want to turn off your lights as a precaution.

yes that is true I have several that are out of water 10 min and no ill effects. Of course the canopy is raised so no direct MH heat.

Thanks for the reply. now I dont have to rush refilling the tank (making a mess in the process). I actually got shocked once while stepping on wet carpet and sticking my hand in the tank.
