Hi all,

I have had my tank for about two years, but have had a really bad design. It has only just survived because of my regular water changes. So now I have spent some...alot...of money and I am in the beginning stages of restarting my whole system again. This time I hope to do it properly.Check out my new system which is now in service,I will be installing the aragonite for the deep sand bed filtration system next week and I'm waiting for some liverock. Please feel free to give your opinions and advice.Unless I get a headache I am not easily offended.

Thanks
Goodisor

Looks about like the staandard sump style set up. Be sure your skimmer is designed to be outside of the sump because some in sump models will weep.

Why are you putting gauze in your DSB?

You may want to take a look at these articles before bothering with the plenum...

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2005/6/ ... hterm=None

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2005/7/ ... hterm=None

From the articles:

"...and the presence or absence of a plenum beneath those sediments showed no significant effect in any experimental parameter measured"

"Put simply, our experiment shows that the presence of a plenum has no measurable benefits over simply depositing the same sediments directly on the bottom of the aquarium..."

Thanks alot for that info.I am going to seriously study it.From what I have read so far it appears that they agree that a sandbed of some discription is good and a plenum with it makes no difference.MAN!!!!I wish I had known this a week ago!!
