hey all, i have a 125 gallon, not really stocked couple chromis and couple tangs

5 chromis
1 scopas
1 orange shoulder
misc inverts and corals

over the weekend i went to a store that was heli-cool and I did an impulse buy. I have never researched this fish before I bought but was assured by the fish guy that it was just a tang and if i have some and they get along I shuold be fine. I have noticed that this little guy doesn't eat and he is extremely active and fast.
i saw him take one little piece of food and I put in a seaweed selects sheet and he picked at it but spit it out. Anybody have any suggestions on getting a stubborn clown tang to eat.

here is a pic of what he looks like

All I know about them is they grow very large, need lots of room and are apparently very belligerent and aggressive. Your orange shoulder and the clown tang have close to the same body shape so you might have some trouble there.

Hella-good luck.

hey I have to say that they are swimming in peace and harmony right now, not one issue, my shoulder tang has been in there for a few months and the clown tang is new. no aggression what-so-ever so far. maybe because they are small? i dunno. I have a buddy with a 125 also who is interested in the clown tang if i have issues, but I like him alot and he will be murder to get out of the tank. dilemas!!!!!!, i did my reading after the fact about these clowns tangs and they get big and I can't wait till he does he would look awesome if he kept the same color pattern to maturity.

i also was amazed since they have a similiar body style that there wasn't more fireworks but so far so good.

If you can get him to eat regularly he will thrive. The problem is getting them to eat. If he does he will bully and kill the rest of your tangs, pygmy angels or any other similar species. I had one a long time ago and he was great. Kept him for many years until I tore the tank down. You just need to house him in a large tank with more aggressive fish. I had mine with triggers, groupers and hawks.

actually he is in a 125 with two other tangs, shoulder and scopas, he may be moved to a buddies house with a 125 and a niger trigger in it tonight. he is really a cool fish and I really hate to get rid of him. he only eats like 1 piece of food a day that I see. maybe in my buddies tank it will do better. If i can get him out!!

thanks for the advice.
this fish doesn't eat flakes, green stuff, seaweed selects, formula B, only eats blood worms and only one piece. I haven't tried live brine yet.

Relax about the fish being hyperactive, pygama tangs are always a bit exploratory in a new tank and zip around like they are on steroids. He will generally slow down and settle in in a few days. They are very susceptable to ich during the first few days too so watch carefully, especially as you have introduced him to 2 new tanks in 3 days, not counting the LFS. Once they settle they will usually feed, often on food sources in your tank with introduced food being accepted later in small quantities.

Try some nori on one of those sucker clips, and put it about midway up the glass on the other side of the tank from where the fish seems to hang out. When he starts swimming predominately with his pectoral fins and not his tail he should be pretty settled. I found mine likes food stuck higher than normal and likes to swim across the tank, peck a bit and retreat.
