I have a scumb substance on the surface of the water that is really bugging me could someone give me an idea what is going on. Also what is a good test kit for phosphates and also a good buffer or equipment to resolve any issues. I have not been able to test yet, but I know that the phos is fairly high and I need to fix fairly quick. My little reef buddies are absolute pigs. They eat 4 times a day. The anomoies eat every other day.

Thank you,
J.c.

The scum is protien that your skimmer should be removing from the tank. The easiest long term way to remove it is surface skimming. YOu can use a paper towel like removing an oil slick. Or possibly surface agitation
Salifert test kits are very reputable.
If you think about it, a fishes life is all about survival. Eat, dont be eaten and reproduce. They would probably eat twelve times a day if you give them the food. Twice a day is the recommended amount of feedings. They can hunt and peck the rest of the day and help keep the tank clean. Think of it as their job.
