Dang! I have a six line wrasse that I put in the tank around 4 weeks ago 1st fish. Today I noticed a good size little cotton ball on or in his/her fin area. I have delt with fresh water ich a few times and this is about twice the size of those spots or bubbles and more cottony looking than the salt grain look of fresh water ich. There also is just one that I didn't notice yesterday. Is this marine ich? I just put in a zebrsomas last week that is just starting to seem at ease in the tank it would be a shame to put them in a QT. Sorry but the wrasse is hard to photo. I have cleaner shrimp but I haven't seem him with the wrasse
Thanks

I just saw some more pics from the internet. I looks like Ich it is. Stores just closed here so tomorrow I'll buy a new tank. How big should it be? Do I need to cycle it or is it good enough to put in a piece of live rock? I have a large one that I'm not to fond of.

"cotton ball" does not sound like ich to me. It sounds like a fungal infection maybe? Saltwater Ich looks very similar to freshwater ich, like grains. Here is an article on the treatment of ich if that is what it is. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/ ... /mini3.htm

If you want to treat just the six line, a cheapo ten gallon would do fine, be sure you cover it with something.

In fact, Paletta in "The New Marine Aquarium" discribes Lymphocystis as looking like bits of cauliflower. This sounds like it but there are not photos to confirm. If it is lymphocystis then it is a self containing viral infection that is rarely fatal.
