Every time I feed my corals I turn of my power heads and return pumps. I do this so the food can be suspended around the corals.

Question is everytime I turn all that back on i get this rush of fiber looking white things being put back into the display tank. I never had that happen on a wet dry. I am thinking it is caused by the fuge. Perhaps the plants release something that builds up in the return chamber while I am feeding. I leave the stuff off for about 30 - 45 minutes.

After about 45 min to an hour it is all cleared up again. They just look like tiny white things, almost like fibers. Some are like string, about a .25 inch - .5 inches long.

Is my theory correct or is it something much much worse? Has anybody expeirenced this before?

i don't get that at all. nor do i know what it is. but if you don't see them anymore after a little while, and have had no adverse effects, i wouldn't worry about it.
everything that grows in my fuge has either glued itself to something or can swim mighty good. :?

hey i get this is it like little strands and pieces that is like a total rush of crap going into the tank, it is white? i think it is something that grows and then breaks up after the water has changed or the rush back on

i don't turn off my stuff for feeding but when i work on the tank, this happens to me

I dont turn off any thing when I feed my tank. I say tank because I feed the fish and the corals get to reap the benefits of whats left over. I make a custom blend of prawns, clams, salmon, formula one, misis shrimp, squid, and baby brine shrimp in the blender. It lasts two months and everyone gets a mix of food daily. Also I dont turn off the circulation pump so that my separate fuge can get some of the nutrients from feedings.

When I used to rely on the leftovers for the corals, they never got all of it. And when they did, the current would blow it off if they didn't have a tight "grip." Now I spot feed the corals about once or twice a week and they're growing better! :)

With over 40 colonies in my 120 I would have to spend an hour spot feeding every colony. I would guess that I would be severly overfeeding my tank in doing so. Maybe my description was was wrong. I try to make a blend of food that takes care of the corals and fish in one feeding. Most of my corals cant eat food that I can see with the naked eye (without staring very hard) so I wouldnt know if they were eating anyway.Call me lazy if you will, I honestly like to keep my hand out of my tank as much as possible. My corals have great color and seem to have pretty good growth four being only six months old. Im in no great hurry to make them grow at amazing rates. As they say "Good things dont happen quickly in a reef tank".

Mine can't grow at amazing speeds. I wish! :D You've got mostly SPS, though, right? Some of my LPS need to be spot fed because of the size of their mouths.

I do have mostly SPS. If I had more LPS I would try to spot feed on occasion. YOu got me there. I feel bad for my one open brain in the 120. It was much happier in my old 30, I may put it in my wifes new softy 30 so It can be spot fed with the fungia she has. I to, wish my coral would grow at amazing rates. We would have so many more frags to trade in. :D I find that my SPS grow more quickly than my few LPS.
To make a long story short. I dont turn off anything in either of my tanks for feedings. I guess I may have to start if my wife fills her tank up with LPS.

What I think it is Doni is just normal bacterial film that grows in the pipework. When you shut down and restart things that bacteria gets disodged and blows into the tank. That, plus detrious. No worries IMO/IME.
