Hi all,

I have a poor calcium rate in my tank, something like 300mg/l, that's why I tried to add some kalkwasser in it.

Here is my problem: I add some calcium Hydroxyde in a bottle and I mix it up. After few minutes I test it and I always find something like 240mg/l (in the better case...I've already found a 80mg/l) of calcium !!

8O

I bought a new box of calcium hydroxyd but it's still the same problem...

What could be the problem?

Thx guys

It takes a while for the Ca to saturate the solution. Let it sit for a few hours before testing it.

Also the ph may affect the reading of your test kit (this is an outright guess, I have no idea if this could be true or not, but it seem logical).

Lastly, you can add vinegar to your kalk solution to adjust pH and allow more of the kalk to disolve.

In addition, you should make sure you don't add the kalk solution too quickly. It can lower the calcium if you just dump it into the tank, you know.

Kalk will not raise your calcium levels in your tank. To raise it you can use calcium chloride (Turbo calcium) or a 2-Part like B-Ionic.

Yeah i've already read it in the forum but I don't like to add stuff in my tank... But in this case I have to... so...

I have read that adding calcium chloride could create an "unbalanced" ionic water, or something like that. What do you think about it?

2-Part should be better isn't it?

My tank is a 25g full of coralline... My Mg was 800 8O , raised it to 1200

Thank you all for helping me!!
Great forum you have here!

If you drip it, you should be fine as to the rate. Just make sure you are dripping it around a high flow area of your sump, if you have one. You don't want to drip it to somewhere where there is very little water flow.
