Protein skimmer dilemma

We are setting up a new 240 gallon reef system and everyone we ask gives us a different answer on what protein skimmer is best for us. Please help! We want to set up the best system we can.

AHH the world of skimmers. IT basically breaks down into how much you can or are willing to pay. There are lots of brands out there on the market right now. I don't have a tank this size, but I'm sure some guys around here will chime in and help out.

One thing to keep in mind is that you will want a skimmer that is rated well over your tank size. PERSONALLY I wouldn't purchase ANYTHING rated under 300-350g for a 240g tank. I have a 65g cube reef system and just upgraded to a skimmer that is rated for around 150g.

I couldnt agree with SnowManSnow more. I picked up a skimmer rated for 180G to work For my 120. I already wish I had a bigger better skimmer.

At the top of the line you'll find brands like Bubble King, Euroreef, and Deltec. These are generally pretty expensive, but really nice and efficent skimmers. IMO there is NOTHING wrong with going with AquaC for in sump installs either. I really like their skimmers... no moving parts.. nothing to really service except just keeping the riser tube clean. I'm getting an Octopus brand in in the next few days, so we will see what the quality is like on these. If you're going to skimp and save some $$ on somthing it shouldn't be lighting or skimming I know skimming can be expensive up front.. but it will save you a lot of trouble if you go with a quality skimmer from the get go.
