I have a Seaclone that hangs off the back of my tank. Should the filter that's attached to the pump/powerhead be completely submersed or AT the water level so some parts of it stick out?

Along the same lines, what is the best flow direction for powerheads in relation to a filter intake? Should have them aimed TOWARDS the intake or is it unnecessary?

Just trying to maximize my filtration.

You want it submerged. For one, you don't want the pump intake too close to the surface or you can suck air. Also, the pump is water cooled so it would be preferably for it to be completely submerged.

As for the circulation powerheads, if you have enough circulation in the tank (ie. good flow everywhere - no dead spots) it's not generally necessary to aim them toward the filter intake.
