magnesium traces and tests??????

hey there everybody, i have just set up a 4 ft marine tank i dont have anything in there except subatrate and water i did all my water test today and my magnesium was only 300 ppm and what i have worked out it needs to be 1300 ppm. i went ot the lfs and got some magnesium trace and put in the recomended dose( red sea brand ) but then on the back it recomends not to use it untill the aquarium is astablished for at least 3 mths does it matter that i have put this in and how can i bring the magnesium up thanxs for your help shaz

It seems highly unlikely that reading could be correct with new saltwater.

I would try another test kit or take a sample to your LFS for testing to confirm the reading before going any further.

Provided you haven't thrown your levels way out of wack by using too much, the magnesium supplement should not have any ill effects on the system.

hey thaxs for advise i rechecked the test and the levels have come right up could this have been because my salt level was low when i checked it ?
