I dont know how big the tank is, what I did was take an 802 powerhead and hooked up 1/2 pvc pipe with five drilled holes. I put it next to the drop box and have awsome flow in the tank.

Maxijets have a reputation as a dependable inexpensive power head.
They are stationary. In my limited experience, rotating power heads tend to be problematic and need servicing all the time. I believe most tend to eventually by automated wave makers of some sort for their powerheads.

You could use a few maxijets on a wavemaker to randomize the flow.

For a small tank maxijets are the way to go. If you have a larger tank you should look at the seios or tunze streams.

Maxjets with a hydor attachment work great. I have one in my tank now to mix things up.

It just goes on the end of the maxijet :)

Snow,

That really works? It rotates? Circulating the water vs. wavemaker?
It does rotate/work. It can get stuck sometimes but happens kind of rarely and it's easy to take it out and clean. All it is a "slow moving fan with a hole for the flow to exit" that slips onto the tip of the powerhead. It's neat but my beef with it was that it cuts down the flow considerably, IMHO.

It's not really too much flow. It's probably just really linear. You could try to aim the powerheads at each other, towards the top of the tank. I have 3 MJ1200s in my 75G along with about 500 GPH from my return and it can be "too much" if I position it wrong. (Especially if corals are close to it, obviously!) But when it really comes down to it, it's not enough for my LPS/softie tank, still. I did cut the tips of the MJs off to spread the flow and it is a lot better, I feel. Tunze mods are in the plans though, but we'll have to see how the sand bed handles it! :D

Do try the flow diverters, but keep in mind that the flow is diverted, but not really dispersed like proper flow should be. :)

part of my problem is that if i point them at eachother everything in the tank gets pushed arond by the powerheads, and ive tried all different positioning, the las few days ive turned one off so i only have one running, currently i have them in the upper left and right hand corners...they do push out a very fine pencil like flow...so i dont know..maybe i just need different pheads...

I use a hydor on the output from my return which is also split by a scwd..

Works great, only PH I need in the tank is a seio which I generally hide behind rockwork.. (Had to move it for now, until my new BTA settles down somewhere, sucker already lost 3-4 tentacles trying to get sucked in.. :? )

I have two maxi jet 900's in my 55 gallon with the hydor attachments. They work great. I have had mine in for about 4 months, and still have not had any problems. I am going to take them out and clean them ths weekend just to be safe though. They come with several different sized attachments to fit on various powerheads.
