just tested my water. everything is great, EXCEPT, my calcuim level is so high it can't be measured with store-bought equiptment. 8O
everyone seems to be acting ok, but a rough guess would put my calcium levels at approximately 1000+ppm.
i have added a little purple up once a week or so(less than the measured dose for my tank size), and the bottle tells me to add it no more than once a day. usually calcium is fine...450 or so.
just did a 20% water change(after the reading). what could have caused this? such a small dose of purple up? nothing was added except various cleanup critters. nassirus snails and tiger tail cucumber. :?

I'm far from an expert but, I dont think that a Ca. level that high is even possible. I would think that you would have such a bad ALK/Ca inbalance that you would have a nice snow storm far before your level could get that high. What kind of test kit are you using? Have you had the LFS double check it?
Also, why are you using purple up? Does any of your LR have coraline algea on it? If so, It will grow all on its own if your levels are in check. I find that PC lighting tends to grow coraline more quickly than VHOs or MH at my house.

If calcuim gets above 600, you will have a snowstorm in your tank.
