Hi guys. I am brand spankin' new to the aquarium thing so please forgive me for what may be a pretty dumb question.

Yesterday, one of my Turbo Grazers died. When I found him, he was on his side and there were 2 small snails attached to his body. I figured maybe they were "taking care" of the body for me so I left them alone.

However, this morning, they have left him alone and he's just laying there upside down.

I have 10 or so hermits and 3 emeralds in the tank. Will these guys eat the rest of the snail? Should I remove the body from the tank or just leave it in there? If I remove it, how can I dispose of his body and still keep the shell?

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to RDO!

If you can remove the dead snail, do so. Dead snail not removed will be fertilizer for algae, which defeat the purpose of having them in the tank for algae control. If you like the shell, you may keep it. But try to get all the decaying matter out as much as possible. Take a sniff on it, and you will be glad that your tank does not smell like that, yuck!

Well, you should remove the rotting livestock unless it is difficult to get to. There are better, cheaper way to promote hair algae.
