I am trying to post some pics. Tank has been setup since 09-Jan-2007.

Nice looking liverock and setup spanko. Can't help but notice this tank is less than five days old, and you already have a clownfish in there. Be careful of your water quality, as new tanks will spike ammonia, etc, as they cycle even with good looking rock such as you have. Most people hold off putting any fish in a new tank until it has stabilized.

Good luck!

I was told that i should put something hardy like the clown or maybe a damsel to help the cycle start. Also the tank was set up with 20 lbs. of live aragonite sand, 9 lbs. of tofa rock and 11 lbs. of cured live rock. They said that with that amount of "live" stuff that the cycle should not be that bad as there were already a good amount of nitrifying bacteria present. Was I told something that was perhaps untrue?

Adding a fish to cycle the tank is very "old school" and for the most part not recommended anymore. There are a few reasons, but mostly because live rock has the bacterial strains needed to start the cycle making putting a fish in unnecessary.

This board has a ton of resources and information-it's what we are here for, to spread information about the hobby.

There is a special page of new reefer resources here:

From there here's a link to some good general information on reefkeeping that describes live rock and cycling:

Also, since you are from Michigan, here's another good board full of us locals:
