When I moved I decided to make my fowlr tank into a reef I upgraded the lighting (300 of metal halide) and skimmer ( seaclone to remora pro). I waited a month after I moved to let the water stablize and bought my first coral (star polyp). It has been in my tank for five days and still has not opened.

my water conditions are
sg 1.024
amonia 0
nitrite 0
natrate 0
dk 9
calcium 415
Water is clear and good looking with no noticable algae anywhere.

Should I be woried. Is there anything I can do

Star polyps can "sulk" when they are moved, and keep closed for up to a week so I wouldn't worry too much. But to be on the safe side, where have you put it in the tank in terms of flow and lighting? My worry would be if you put them up too high under those halides if they aren't used to that much light.

Lawdawg's right about star polyps sulking. This could be made worse if you've been moving it around a lot trying to find the perfect place to try and get it to open. If you have, leaving it be might help quite a bit.

Lawdawg is right IMO. The light may be to intense right now if it is to high. You may want to try a new location and see if that helps. Plus is it getting low flow, that could be another issue. If they dont get enough flow they can get covered in an algae that will affect them.

They are placed in a medium highish place right now so its possible that the light is too intense. Kinda funny most beginners have the opposite problem.

Ill move it to a less intence light area If they are not open by the time i get off work. My tank is a 46 gal bow front. I have 2 max jet and the remora pro for my flow. Im about 15-20X flow right now.

What is another coral that likes high lighting but is easy as far as water parameters.

My star polyp took 2 weeks to open up. Gorgeous when it finally does open though. Just be patient.

Ive got some gsp that wont open for a week at a time not being moved or anything, on the other hand i have a different colony of metallic gsp that i have seen do the same thing but i have not noticed them doing it at the same time so i dont worry much about it. They always open up, they are near impossible to kill.
