I'm back in the hobby after a 3-year hiatus. Got the tank up and running and I'm almost ready to add live rock. I added salt to the water over the weekend, and now my skimmer is putting a lot of microbubbles into the water. I know the skimmer isn't skimming anything from my RO/DI water -- I just have everything going to make sure it's functional and there are no leaks.

I've adjusted the skimmer, re-arranged the sump slightly and was able to get a little relief. Any other advice?

The skimmer is a Top Fathom 110A that is being powered by a Mag7. It never did this in the past.

You gotta love micro bubbles. Os your sump baffled? In which chamber is your skimmer located? There are quite a few things to try based on those answers. I battled with them for awhile myself.

There is a rumor that micro bubbles are sometimes normal in a new setup. I am sure I heard this from some other guys here, although I could be wrong about that..

Got this reply from Eric at Top Fathom this morning. It's a great skimmer. I used it for a couple of years and also had a friend who had an aquarium maintenance business. He used them on all of his set-ups as well.

"New salt water can allow the skimmers to produce micro bubbles. Bubble size changes depending on the water condition. Run the skimmer for a few days. The micro bubbles should slow down. The may also be micro bubbles after adding live rock. If you cant stand the bubbles, restrict the flow on the pump of the skimmer for a few days. As the tank ages there will be fewer bubbles."
