Okay, so you wake up in the morning, and you go to get a cup of coffee. While walking by the tank you step into a puddle! You quickly grab a fish towel and clean up the floor. You start to look for the leak but nothing is apparent. No crack in the tank. No water running down the stand. You check the level in the sump and you figure you lost less than a gallon overnight. No big deal. It's a 30 gallon system so it should be fine, the pump is not running dry.

Upon further research you find two places it's wet. But neither are conclusive.
One: Your top off plumbing.
Two: Your return plumbing from the tank.

In ONE step, how do you figure out which one it is?

The winner just gets to say "Nah nah nah I'm smarter than you."

Remember this quiz is just for the newbies on board. All you old guys and gals already know the answer.

PS. My socks are in the bathtub drying out.

Stick your finger in the puddle and then taste it. If it's salt water then it's your tank plumbing, if it's fresh water then it's your ATO.

Too late. You've already cleaned it up. and there's not enough water in any one place that you can tell. Plus, with all the salt creep it would be a tainted sample.

If your ATO is mounted on the sump you could cut the power to the return pump. If its still wet its the ATO.

There's no stream of water. It would take 8 more hours to find out. The return pump is your only circulation. I'm betting the animals won't like that.

Thats a cheap prize.

I'll give you all the flatworms (I can catch) out of my tank if you need a 'prize!'
