Super-Dumb Question

do you all vaccum live sand? when you do water changes, do you vaccum the fish poop out of the sand?
i was about to tonight, and thought that i am sucking up all the critters i'm trying to breed.
the thing is, my sand bed is not super deep. before i learned about deep sand beds, i just gave my tank a light dusting with sand, maybe 1 & 1/2" tops.
since then i have added some crushed coral and will be purchasing some additional live sand to add, but i'm thinking.....right now it really doesn't have any filtration quality, so should i vaccum the nasties out?

I do vac my substrate.

My sand is only approx. 1.5" as well. I wouldnt necessarily call it live. I do siphon it when doing thourough cleaning.

Every water change I do and have ever done I syphon out as much poop and nasties as possible. I normally do my tank in sections (even the 55 gal). Left side x amount of gallons, and right side same amount.


Not a dumb question, that is how i learned the tiny bit I know. Keep the questions coming. 8)
