Hello.

I had my reef tank for about 4 months now. I purchased a pulsing xenia about 3 months ago. Everything was doing fine until i realized my pulsing xenia is bitten up. Most of its cloves are bitten or eaten off. What could of caused this? It was doing fine the past three months. It happened right after a purchase of 2 new fishes. One was an anthias and a goby(sand sifter on). I wonder if it was them but i was told they were reef safe. Could it be the anthias or the goby? The funny thing is i have lots of other corals too which were not attacked. It was only the xenia coral.

Pulsing xenia are sensitive to swings in PH and alkalinity – are you positive its been nibbled on or could it be that the heads are drawn inward?

Its been bitten. The reason i know because the staulks are extended and you would see it's tips(like a flower). But instead looking like a flower with all its pedals, it looks like a flower with 1 or 2 petals. I don't think its ph swing because i have bubble coral, a purple tip frogspawn(or torch) coral, brain coral, white clove polyps and a whole lot of zoos and they all seem to be doing fine.

Heres is a list of animals i have in the tank:

large hippo tang
X-large yellow tang
blue damsel
3-stripe damsel
blue-sided fairy wrasse
ranford's goby
lyre tail anthias(the orange one with the purple eye)

2 large cleaner shrimp
3-4 peppermint shrimp
a few small hermit crabs
a few snails

Any other ideas on what would bite it up. It got worse too. Maybe there was some hitchhiker which i don't know about, but i had my tank for 3 months-going on 4 months and only now i have this problem. I don't know what it could be. Any other suggestions that anyone has would help greatly.

thanks for your time guys.
