Hi guys,

Im looking into getting a marine test kit so I can actually start monitoring my tank parameters. Can anyone recomend one. I kinda like the ones with the dip stick but they don't seem to make them for all. Any advice?

I have a 40g mix tank consisting of sps, lps, soft corals and a clam. It used to be just a FOWLR for a few years and have been slowly converting it to a reef setup. I have only been monitoring salinity. lately, calcium but nothing else. I do 5g water change weekly using filtered sea water and RO/bottled water for top-off.

All is fine at the moment. just want to know what's going on when shiet happens.

Salifert is the most popular and most recommended line of test kits out there. They are usually not easy stick or tab kits, but they are accurate. A lot of the easy-to-use test kits will give you erroneous results which is either not helpful or does more harm then good. I would stick with a high quality test kit, even if it is a little harder to use.

I third and fourth the Salifert. Once you get used to them, they only take a couple minutes. I can run ALK, CAL, PH and nitrate in less than five minutes. Its worth the time knowing they are accurate.
