Hey all,
I just started a new 75 Gallon Tank, from a 65 gallon Fish only tank.
I already have 65 lbs of Live Rock curred and in the tank and a Blue Fin Damsel, Maroon Clown, an ordinary Clow, a Coral Banded shrimp, and a Fancy Brittle Star.
For filtration I am running a Cascade 700 (no Carbon) and a Magnum 350 (no Carbon). And a Prism Protein skimmer. I also just purchesed a new high out put light.
What I am looking to do is dip my hand into corals, What else would I need to do, and what are someother good fish to get. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I will take any and all help before I get in oer my head.

Hi and :welcome:

I would decide what types of coral you want to keep. Then I would asses the need to upgrade equipment. Most corals require very intense lighting. You coud look into Metal halide, VHO, or T5 lighting... or a combo of the ones mentioned. Skimming is a huge concern with keeping corals. Most corals require very low nutirent level in the tank to thrive. a few of the LPS types actually do well with small amounts of nitrate. (frogspawn, hammer) but most really deserve a low nutient tank.

I would upgrade your skimmer.I have a prism in my garge and I never got it to produce any skimmate. I am sure you just bought it.... you might be able to sell it to help invest in the next one.

If you see an equipment you have questions on please ask us. we can help you make an eductated decision on your purchase. I am a gear head as is a few others here on RDO.

please ask away....

well our LFS has, well I am not sur eif it is coral, but button polyps, and stuff to that sort. I am not sure what I want to get into, but what they have is all attached to live rock. Also right now I have a 65Wx2 T-5 lamp comming, so that is a plus. as for my Prism it works pretty good. I have used it for almost a year and a half and it works pretty good. Once I get it set I can usually go about 1/2 a month than I have to clean it out. Lets just say it is not the best smelling stuff in the world, but it still smells better than sme of my salt water strainers on my ship.LOL :D
