Question about depth of sb. Plan to use both sand and crushed coral but how deep of a sb for anaerobic bacteria?

3 to 4 inches, maybe even 5 inches.

I have a SB of approx 6 to 8 inches. Well How about this I will give you in bags. 80 lbs of dry agronite and 160 lbs of wet agronite. Yeah that is right. Sorry, I had to think. This dsb is in a 90 gal.

Use whatever depth you want. Shallow sand beds and live rock house plenty of anaerobic bacteria too.

I've run systems with deep sand beds, shallow sand beds and no sand at all (just live rock). Personally, I've never had nitrate issues in any of them and IMO all are viable methods in reefkeeping.

Unless you are housing animals that require it, IMO deep substrates are not necessary and personally I wouldn't bother.

Thanks all, plan on at least 3 in. Good to know that I don't even need that
