I wanted to get some thoughts on sound proofing a sump area. My wetdry/refugium makes quite a bit of noise, and I was wanting to sound proof it. There are openings in the rear of the sump area, where I think some of the sound is escaping, but I wanted to make sure it was ok so I didn't over heat any thing.

Thoughts?

Has anyone found other ways of quieting down a wet/dry?

what is making the noise? the water being fed into it? the return pump? what is the sound coming from?

A couple of things...for one the water going into the wet/dry prior to the drip tray...plus the skimmer pouring water back into sump...the stand pipe also makes some noise, but I hear the durso pipe is the way to go with that.

The water returning back on top of the tray,
still can either put a sock over it, or remove the tray and run pipe or hose to the bottom of the unit,

the skimmer, I dunno maybe a flat piece of plastic or maybe a flat piece of slate on an angle for the water to run down instead of falling right back into the water?? I usually look in my garage or basemest for something I never thought would work and rig something.

let me know how it turns out or what you do

I have the same thing going on with this to. I like the noise though and it really pisses off the wife at times (hehehehe) just for craps and giggles. I need to work on mine also. But what I did for the skimmer noise was I had an extra sponge that was just tall enough to fit under the outlet. I know it is another peice that I get to clean but on the other hand it is cleaning too.
