well I'll have to admit that I am pretty new to reef keeping, here are a few questions that are probably pretty dumb. I started with a nano, moved up to a 30 with 20 sump, and then to current tanks, 120 and a 55

Anyhow, here goes.

120h with 35 gal custom sump/fuge. UV ster and remora skimmer.
2 250 w Ushio 10K + actinics and moonlights. I have mostly softies, colt, shroom, rics. I also have an acro that has grown from a 1 1/2 inch frag to a 3x4 piece in 8 months. I have 2 sun polyp colonies, dendrophillia, cynarina, a sea whip and a squamous clam that has grown from 3 to 5 inches over past 6 months. There is approx 170lbs live rock covered in corraline algae. Misc reef cleaners, RBTA which has split with a pair of maroon clowns, a mated pair of jawfish that are expecting!!
My parameters are good though my phosphates could be lower. I have no algae problems and everything looks happy and healthy. Here's the issue. I don't dose calcium everyday. I use purple up every 3 days, essential elements kent as per instructions on box, same goes for stronium, iodine etc. I do not use a 2 part buffer or anything else.
My tank runs are 78-79 degrees without chiller (I have one but haven't hooked it up yet. I run a wave maker with seios and a custom flow system which the uv is plumbed into.

Anyhow, the more I read, I wonder if I am doing okay. Should I add 2 part buffer, or reactor?? Do i need to dose differently?? I do not use RO water, I have a clean deep well that tests fine. I am not sure if I should switch to RO water....I am hesitant because everything is happy. I have tons of pods and brittle stars etc, the fuge is teeming with life. I feed 2 times a day, frozen food mysis, cyclopeez, emerald entree, marine cuisine. I target feed corals everyday, and the RBTA gets a silverside or krill everday. The stocking is this:
1 5" purple tang
1 3" coral beauty
1 pink spot goby 2"
1 pistol shrimp 1 1/2"
2 neon gobies
2 jaw fish (pearly) mated pair
2 serpent stars
1 5" clam
1 flame scallop
2 maroon clown female 3", male 1 1/2"
1 clarkii clown 2"
1 twin spot goby 2"
1 coral banded shrimp 2"
1 cleaner shrimp 2"
3 peppermint shrimp 1 "
2 sexy shrimp with frogspawn as host

I think that is everyone :)

These are not new photos, about 5 months old. I'll try and shoot some new ones. I have added about 50 lbs of live rock.
Help!

forgot to add: tank set up aug last year. Live rock purchased from reefer who was moving. It came from established 5 yr old system and was completely covered in coralline algae. Rock placed of white light grid. Sand bed in front 1/3 of tank. 1-3 inches, except around jaw fish burrow 6 inches with shells etc for them to build with. Additional live rock purchased about 20lbs at a time, cured and good coralline growth at time of purchase. Cyano bloom for about 3 weeks during first 3 months. Did not treat with anything, just removed manually daily. No problems after that. Original rock had small amounts of hair algae, borrowed sea hair for 2 weeks, no more issues. Have stocked many different types of coral and have learned through trial and error...didn't find you guys of RC soon enough.

No more carnation, goniopora, blueberry gorgonians, or sebae anemonies for me :)
The acro has been in the tank from the beginning along with RBTA and shrooms.

Even tho you are using well water i think that you should still use RO/DI water but that is just ,my opinion as i have seen many very successful tanks using regular tap water. BTW nice tank. Good luck and happy reef keeping

My personal opinion is, "if it ain't broke don't fix it"..
My tank is ran with that quote in mind. As long as the animals are happy, and thriving I continue my usual routine.:)
But I'm sure the gurus here will chime in with their recommendations.

New PICs please..............

While I read through your system description, there are things that general convention says you should change, but if everything is running smoothly why change it.

The things that do catch my attention.

Your skimer is way under powered for that size tank.
You should be using RO/DI water.
You need dose two part or use a calcium reactor.

But as I said, if it aint broke don't fix it. Now that doesn't mean you wont run into trouble down the line, I would be concerned with phosphates and other organics and inorganics building up in the system.
