i just purchased a beautiful long tentacle anemone, and the maroon clown that was residing in him at the LFS. i have noticed that the maroon clown, during feeding time will gather large chunks of food (formula B, krill) and bring it to the anemone. pretty cool!
what bothers me is i NEVER see the clown eat. he gives EVERYTHING to the anemone. is this normal?..am i missing something?

Wow! That is really a very sweet LTA!

Is the clown fat? I suspect it eats some of the food it is hauling into the anemone.

no..not really. he doesn't seem sickly, but he's certainly not chubby.

My clownfish try and eat all the food out of my anemone. They are little piggies, sometimes they even just yank it out and then decide they don't want to eat it.

Fortunatly my anemone eats the food pretty fast so he usually gets something.

i am kinda cheating. it's under the blues...so it picked up some extra color
it's still beautiful though, actually..the LFS labeled it a brown lta, but it's purple.

wow..so this clown giving up his food for his stringy buddy is unusual?
i mean..he will not leave the LTA unless he sees food, and then he will go grab it and spit it right in the middle of the LTA. :?

I doubt the clown will let itself starve in keeping its host alive. MY two marrons both have different personalities when it comes to feeding the condy they host in. One is diligent and the other is very neglectful. I guees you could say they both have their roles in life.

thanks!. hey....does anyone have any idea why the anemone curls up and shrivels inside the footing i placed him in, once a day, every day?
i didn't have a piece of pvc handy so i cut the top of a large plastic jar off and sunk it in the sand, and placed him in that.
just about dinner time every day he sinks down inside for a short period.
i'm wondering why he does that.
the clown just hovers above him and waits dilligently.

Maybe he has to, you know, make some room for all the food he is getting?

It looks really nice, makes me wonder why I have a greenish brown one. I want a purple LTA!

sometimes his tentacles , not all of them, but a group of them, will get real skinny and shriveled looking, for a bit..then they re-inflate. is this typical with yours?
