I first found one of these cocoon looking things attached to one of my rocks 2 months ago. Now i see these things all over my fuge and a few more on the rocks in my main tank. Any clue what's waiting to jump out of these??

They are harmless. I think they are actually called truncates. Kind of like a sponge, but a little different.

The second picture is of sponges of the Genus: Sycon. The first looks like it is also a genus of sponge.

I have millions of these things. if you look close can you see that they are bulbus shaped and have little openings at the top like a little worm lives in them? for some reason they liike the fuge but I see some in my display right now too. also on the snail shells. I hope it doesn't become an epidemic.
curious anybody know how to get rid of these if I have an outbreak.

Skim 24/7 :P

I have had them come and go in waves in my tank but never completely go away. That are a harmless sponge. The do not like intense lighting and will likely never become an eyesore. They are a filter feeder and polish the water so to speak. The dirtier the water the more they will thrive.

I wouldnt worry about them. They are a good thing.

Thanks everyone. At first they looked like some kind of cocoon. I didn't need something bad coming out of them. I never had them in my 55. Then again I never had a fuge with that setup either

No comment about my 24/7 ribbing Shavs? Actually a freind of mine is cutting back to a 12hr skim cycle and I am glad to see him do it. I believe that due to his lack of feeding and haveing BB his water is nutrient poor and his corals are all dull and pale. He has a green slimer that is banana yellow!!. I, on the other hand feed so dirty that my corals grow like weeds, are near browning out, and I am constantly on the edge of cyano. If I dont skim 24/7 I WILL have problems.

I just like to tease you about it. Or am I confused again and "X" is the guy who only skims 12hrs a day? :D

Bare Bottom.

Reef frontiers has ALOT of local peeps in there. I am trying to network myself. I also just joined a local reef club. I am gearing up to build a prop system to sell frags locally to supplement my addiction.
