Skimmer sizes

Hi,
I am new to froum and saltwater reef tanks. I have question about skimmers. I have a FOWL tank that I am contemplating adding mushrooms and such. I am curious about skimmers deos the size and type of skimmer coincide with tank capacity (size)? I have a 40Gal (us) tankke with live rockk and substrate and been looking at a fission Nano skimmer cause of the size but am not sure if it would suffice. I am limited to space and was thinkin internal skimmer but they are all so big.

Hi Jim,

The Fission is going to be ineffective in a tank your size. Skimmer performance capabilities is primarily a function of the size of the reaction chamber and the power of the pump and amount of air it can generate. So a small skimmer will be able to do less then a big skimmer. You will want a bigger skimmer then the Fission for a 40 gallon.

Thanks for the response (but not the one i wanted to hear)
In reality tho' my tank is rated at 40 gal but I have 2.5" substrate, 25Lbs live rock so in essence it evaluates to about 28-30 gal. I've had the skimmer running since friday afternoon and it is now Monday and there was about a quarte inch of 'crap' in the cup. I hate it when I make a boo-boo The skimmer cost me $71 Canadian here in Vancouver.
