Hi,

Me and my husband are new to the world of aquarium hobbyist and we would like some general information on building your own light fixture.

We currently have a 55 gallon aquarium and the tank has been up for a year.

We want to custom build our light at a low-cost way, but we don't have any good plans. We know that we can get the items from Home Depot.

What we'd like on the lighting fixture:

LED/moonlights
Coral lights
Reef Fish lights

Any plans would be helpful. We'd also like to say "hello" to everyone at the forum :)

:welcome:

What do you consider Coral lights and Reef Fish lights? :) There are a lot of easy retrofits available at affordable prices, including metal halides, power compacts, and VHO lighting. All three types will provide great reef (and fish) lighting. You can source out the cheapest parts in various online vendors, but it's easier (and safer) to get the parts you need at places like Hellolights and Marine Depot, both of which sell lots of DIY lighting parts.
