HI ALL NEED SOME HELP ON WHAT TYPE OF ALGAE CREW TO USE, MY TANK HAS CYCLED AND ALGAE IS STARTING TO FORM ON SURFACES.
MY TANK IS 55 GALLONS WITH ABOUT 80LBS OF ROCK, I HEAR LAWNMORER BLENNEYS ARE GOOD BUT WHAT ELSE? TURBO SNAILS,HERMIT CRABS ETC,
IS THEIR A RULE ABOUT HOW MANY TO USE PER GALLON OR LBS OF ROCK?

I think the general rule is 1-1.5 of both turbo snails and hermit crabs per gallon of water.

I think that lawnmower blennys are good for algae on rocks. HTH.

how long has the tank been running? i had algea blooms 3 and 4 months after setting up and i feel that my tank was still maturing. what does the algea look like? what is in there for livestock now? how long are you running your lights?

I HAVE NO INVERTS OR FISH YET JUST PREPARING FOR THE WAR SO TO SPEAK.
ITS JUST REGULAR START UP ALGAE NO SLIME OR CYNO JUST THE GOOD OLE BRIGHT GREEN STUFF.I'M NOT RUNNING THE MH'S JUST THE PC'S
WILL START ADDING SLOWLY THIS WEEK CLEAN UP CREW AND A FEW INVERTS LATER

you can shut off the power compacts if you want to limit that algae. if you have no inhabitants(corals), you don't need the lights on at all. :wink:

Best algae crew around is your maintnance. If you take care of the things that can cause the out breaks your ahead of the game. Phosphate,detritus clean up etc...Keep your rock clean so it dosen't become a leecher of the nasties. You using sand or Bare bottom? IUf sand you only need 2-3" for the benefits.

I wouldn't put the lawnmower blenny in just yet. Stick with the hermits & snails.
