I'm the father to about 10 or so baby blue leg hermits......

I was so happy when i seen a dead one floating around every week or two (no i'm not evil....) Thinking my overly agressive hermit problem would finally be over soon but i kept seeing them around and i didn't have many in there to begin with. Recently i started to look closer at the hermits as I've been seeing more and more and thought to myself "Wow those are really small for beeing in my tank for over 6 months". I then seen a micro blue leg pop out in an oversized shell trying to scurry over the sand away from my enormous head next to the tank.

This normal and happen to alot of people or am i just blessed (or hated by the reef gods)

Guess i'm gonna have to go buy a buncha empty shells soon before they turn my snails to sushi.

my hermits methodically kill my snails one by one until they are all gone...other than that, they are cool lol

It normal for hermits to breed in people's tanks? Thought it was one of those animals that were hard to get to do that.

food source dictates population.

The more foood you have, the more hermits you'll have.

I don't know about breeding. You might want to take a count and see if you've just got some midget blue legs that haven't been eating.

I've witnessed my scarlet hermits spawning. I don't expect to see any viable offspring though.

yeah, i've only had 15 or so hermits in my tank and i know i've seen more than 12 dead ones floating around, there's about 10 or so still running around. When i was doing my tank change i picked out alot of small shells i found in the sand empty from my other tank and put them in between the rockwork for pods to hide in in the new tank. So, i'm guessing with shells to grab onto they were able to survive if they spawned.

I have also seen my scarlets spawning but have had no viable offspring that I could tell.

You just need to get your snails to reproduce as fast as your hermits so there will be enough shells to go around

Never seen them breed before.
